Experience the Fun and Beauty of SNS Nails
The term SNS nails has been floating around for some time now, but many people don’t understand the hype.
SNS – Signature Nail Systems, are essentially dip powder nails using a quick and easy application. This means less mess, less filing and a speedier result. For both the nail technician and the DIYer this is good news.
After applying a gel base to your nails, they are dipped in a powder. Because the powder is already colored, no painting is required and thus the dry time is zero. So, no sitting there with your hand under a curing lamp! This process can be repeated depending on the intensity of color desired.
SNS nails are impressively durable and much more flexible than traditional acrylics – that flexibility prevents them ‘pinging’ off at inopportune moments – come on girls, we’ve all been there! The powder provides more strength than many gels. It also feels lighter, looks more natural and is thinner than acrylics, but unlike acrylics, once soaked with polish remover, the SNS coating just slips off. There’s no need to chip away at it and risk damaging your nail bed.
Another big bonus is that this system is gentle on natural nails and surrounding skin than other finishes. The powder doesn’t contain the dreaded threesome of formaldehyde, toluene and DBP toxins that are thought to cause long-term health problems when used cumulatively. Also, without the need to cure, the risk of any damage caused by the curing lamp’s UV light is removed.
So now we know why they are increasingly popular, I’m putting my curing lamp away and trying out the best selling kits.
1) Kiara Sky SNS Dip System Nail Kit
What Makes It Great
Kiara Sky have produced a DIY SNS kit that includes everything you need to create beautiful, durable nails at home. Containing the brush-on gel and pretty dipping powders – this is the perfect introduction to SNS nails.
I found the instructions easy to follow, and it all went smoothly. My new nails look great, feel great and they lasted over three weeks before showing signs of wear.
Where It Could Be Improved
The SNS system makes the tough coating resistant to scratches, chips and removing. It took a while and a certain amount of effort to clean the color from my nails, however once I did, they felt nourished and smooth.
2) AirroYE Powder Starter Kit
What Makes It Great
This SNS kit from AirroYE is the perfect starter kit for doing your own SNS dip nails. The non-toxic and odor-free ingredients are fortified with calcium and vitamin E so it can also help your nails to grow stronger and healthier. You get so much in this great starter pack, polishes, top coat, base coat, activator, dipping powders and brush saver. It also comes with a great user manual
The system was easy to apply, went on smoothly and set with a gorgeous sheen. It lasted for nearly three weeks with no lifting or touching up. I really like the simplicity and longevity of this kit.
Where It Could be Improved
As with the Kiss system, this DipWell Nails SNS is so hard wearing that it takes time and effort to remove completely, but once gone, I could definitely feel my nails were healthier than emerging after a gel polish.
3) Mia Secret Professional SNS System
What Makes It Great
Mia Secret’s SNS kit is a no-nonsense pack, consisting of just two pots – one of monomer gel and one of dipping powder; however, both pots are not stingy on size and, as so little is used with each application, they’ll last forever.
Following the simple brush, dip brush process, the products went on well, with no ripples or blemishes, and remained chip-free for over two weeks. Removal was pleasantly simple, too, with none of the hard work usually required.
Where It Could Be Improved
This kit could be improved by the addition of some pots of brighter color, as the included powder is a shimmery neutral.
4) Mefa Dipping Powder System Kit
What Makes It Great
For beginners and pros alike, this kit contains everything you need to create long lasting powder manicures. Complete with detailed instructions, this set includes base and top coats, a liquid activator, and one clear and three colored powders, which can be combined to make a myriad of other colors. With no need to cure, this powder system is super quick drying. It’s also non toxic, and includes Vitamin E and Calcium for healthy nails. I found this SNS kit simple to use and very durable, remaining chip free for nearly three weeks.
Where It Could Be Improved
My only gripe is that the color range is a little pale for my taste, but as the lighter colors are in this season, I’ll be super on trend!
5) Cuccio Powder Polish Dip System
What Makes It Great
With 8 gloriously bold and vibrant colors, including glitters, this dipping set from Cuccio is simply awesome. Odorless, really simple to apply and dries without the need for a UV lamp, you literally just dip your nails, once you’ve applied base coat, into the pot, and brush off the excess. I found three coats, or dips, to be ideal, giving me just over two weeks of chip-free wear.
Where It Could Be Improved
Be aware that this set doesn’t include the activator liquid.
